Oasis of Carnivora

Octopus and Stingrays found new amazing home. Now hanging in sunny Florida.

This piece now hangs in a wonderful setting in Satellite Beach, Florida. The ceiling is an amazing 32 ft. high which proved problematic in hanging it attractively. The first floor is 15 ft. tall...with 8 1/2 ft doors.....made for basketball players maybe?!? 

Flat copper sheet was hand formed to create the octopus and tails for the stingrays. The rays were created by fusing crushed colored glass onto a clear stingray shaped background glass sheet in a kiln at 1500 degrees. Sometimes several firings are required to achieve the desired coloring. Then the flat stingray glass blank is placed back in the kiln and balanced on a hand formed steel stingray mold which I created in different sizes and reheated to 1250 degrees. This lower heat causes the glass to relax and slump onto the steel form but not enough to get to a liquid state and drip off the mold. The "ship in the bottle is real, made the traditional way by an artist from Charlotte, NC using wood from the real ship depicted in the bottle.

The relationship between nature’s wildlife that coexist daily with us humans is harmonically aligned and a threshold or gateway is established when this chime is activated. A harmonic vortex surrounds the threshold, swirling the Lilly pads and water plants and aligning us with all the wildlife existing close by.

A dipper is a spoon?.....well..a really big spoon!

I'm a member of the Pocosin Metal Arts Guild. They decided to mount a traveling show with the theme being "Spoons". No problem!....of course my spoon has to be bigger than everybody elses spoon...measuring 20x18x30 inches.... 

This piece doubles as a potential table that mounts to the wall.. waist high...or higher. The bowl is hammered from sheet copper with a hand wrought steel handle. The water is fused glass....which overflows from the bowl. What's in your spoon?!?

I've got ROCKS in my head!.....

I may just be an old bag of bones to you..but I know where to "hang out" and have fun!

We needed a little light down at the dock....well maybe not little!

     Repurposed metal objects, hand wrought copper, and cast glass. Around 7 ft. tall.

      One inch thick cast glass with koi and pond fish swirling deep within the watery glass.

 Dragonflies with iridescent glass bodies and hammered copper wings hang from the steel gongs.

It's growing larger...and larger......and sprouting roots!

                                           And the flower bud lights up......no kidding!

Octopus, Stingrays, and ship n' bottle hanging sculpture

   

  Each Stingray can be optionally lighted as well as uplighting to highlight the octopus. Small copper squid or glass domed jellyfish may be used to disguise the small LED spotlights that focus on each individual stingray. This octopus will eventually hang from an antique anchor and chain. Other possibilities are to light from inside the octopus eyes and tentacles with various colored miniature LED lighting.
